American actor, best known for his roles as Detective Frank Pembleton in the police drama series Homicide: Life on the Street (1993) and Captain Raymond Holt in the hit comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Homicide: Life on the Street (1993). , who starred as Detective Frank Pembleton, has died at the age of 61. His publicist confirmed that the actor died on Monday after a brief illness.

He was born on 1 July 1962 in Chicago, America. His mother Shelly was a postal worker and his father Floyd Broker, a heavy equipment operator. He was the youngest of four children, initially he sent him to Ignatius College for high school. After earning a scholarship to attend prep school, I enrolled in the Juilliard School's drama division and graduated in 1988.


At that time, he played his first role as Thomas Ryals in the 1989 film Glory, in which he was a North American freedom fighter and a black man who joins the Union Army's first black regiment. Then in the late 1980s, he also played Kojak's assistant in the ABC television revival of the film Kojak.

He later played Detective Frank Pembleton in the television series Homicide: Life on the Street, 

Brougher won Television Critics Association Awards for Individual Achievement in Drama in 1997 and 1998. [9] He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1996 and 1998, and won in the latter year.

In 1997, she was selected by People as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World".
Braugher played the title role in a 1996 production of Henry V, for which he received an Obie Award.

Braugher starred in Manhattan Theater Club's production of the Matthew Lopez play The Whipping Man, Off-Broadway, for a limited run from January–March 2011. Braugher co-starred with Andre Holland. Variety's Marilyn Stasio described the play as "truly poignant and Braugher captures the moment with Simon's pride and thrilling evocations of joy and hope".

From 2013–2021, he starred as Precinct Captain, Raymond Holt, in the Golden Globe-winning TV series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. For his performance on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, he was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

 Marc Evan Jackson, who played Holt’s husband Kevin, posted a photo of the pair of them on set, writing “O Captain. My Captain.”

Braugher is survived by his wife, the actor Ami Brabson who also appeared in Homicide; their three sons Michael, Isaiah and John Wesley; as well as his brother Charles and mother Sally.
